John 5:1-5
[1]
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God,
and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.
[2] By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love
God and obey his commandments. [3] For this is the love of God, that
we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
[4] For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And
this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. [5] Who
is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus
is the Son of God?
Matthew
6:1-4
[1]
Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order
to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father
who is in heaven. [2] Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no
trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the
streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you,
they have received their reward. [3] But when you give to the needy,
do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, [4] so
that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret
will reward you.
