2 Kings 23
Lord God, we need You. We have been made sick by our sin. We want to walk in Your ways again. Cleanse Your temple. Remove those leaders who will not turn away from idolatry and wickedness. Bring a powerful repentance to many. Do Your work in the midst of this evil age and show us hope for a new life. We need the courage of Your Son among us again. Send forth Your messengers to call Your people to worship again in truth. Is there some horrible unseen adversary who is against us? Surely You know what You are doing, even governing all things for Your glory. Teach us to turn to You in a fuller imitation of Your Son. Do not utterly abandon us, O God. Give us hope for the future, even on the day when the most godly leaders are suddenly destroyed. Have mercy on us, O God. We know that we should trust You today. We will obey You, even though many give themselves over to sin.
Psalm 133
Great Lord, it is a joy to be together with our brothers as we serve You in peace. We are Your people. You have given us the oil of gladness. Our security in Christ will never be taken away.
Colossians 3
Father, we are with Christ in heavenly realms. Therefore we earnestly seek those things which are above. Help us to turn away from all ugly thoughts, words, and actions. These will do us no good. Help us to put on compassion, forgiveness, and love. May the peace of Your Son and the dignity of His Word dwell in our hearts richly as we sing to You with joy. Help us to live appropriately in all relationships, particularly within our families. We want to serve You, O God, for Your Son died for us, and we are alive in Him.

Suggested Bible Study and Prayers
(Passages that we will refer to in next Sunday's worship)

2 Kings 22
We thank You, O Lord, for a surprisingly wonderful day of relief. We thank You for righteous children that come from homes that seemed to be committed to idolatry and sin. Grant that Your church will rediscover Your Word even in our day. Grant that we will be grieved concerning our rebellion against You. Help us to have a godly response to the troubles that we face. Have mercy on us. You know that Your church has so often forsaken You. If You were not true to Your great promises, we surely would have been destroyed long ago.

Judges 2
Father God, we have been delivered from the bondage of sin, yet we have not obeyed Your voice as we should. We thank You for the measure of sanctification that You have granted to us already, but we are ashamed of our sin. Help us to remember day by day what Your Son has accomplished for us. If we forget You, we will surely worship idols and turn down paths that will be both fruitless and dangerous. We thank You for our great Deliverer and Savior Jesus Christ. Send Him to us when we would be foolish and lazy, and turn us back to the way of Your Word. Father, in our current weakness and sin there is a test that is too difficult for us to pass. Fill us with Your Spirit that we might serve You as redeemed men, and not as foolish beasts.

2 Kings 21
O God, how can it be that a child will not follow in the way of a godly father? Does one generation tear down the idols of wickedness, only for the next generation to build up the same abominations again? How can those who are called by Your Name be so foolish and hard-hearted? O Lord, bring us the blessings of the new age even today. Innocent blood is shed all around us in every age, but some times are worse than others. Grant us relief. How many years of sadness can we survive? You will surely hear us and help us. We long for the day of victory when all of our disappointments and sins will be utterly swept away.

Psalm 27
God of Our Salvation, there is no one like You. No matter how great the danger, our hope and confidence is in You. Please bring us to Your heavenly temple. We are with You even now in Christ. We long to be close to You and to see You. Be near us now. You are the God of our salvation. Lead us on a level path. We wait for You, O Lord.

2 Kings 20
Our Father, our lives are in Your hands. When we face our mortality, we cry out to You. You grant us life according to Your good pleasure. We thank You that our King Jesus reigns forever. The resurrection of our Messiah is the greatest sign to us of the truth of Your promises. On the day of blessing, help us to remain in watchfulness. Teach us to remember the humbling providences that we have suffered in the past, and to resist the danger of foolish pride.

Genesis 16
Merciful Lord, why do we take matters into our own hands, as if Your great promises wait for us to fulfill them? The way of Hagar is not the solution to our barren lives. You must bless, Lord, for our own plans are troublesome. They lead only to death. You are so faithful. You know our weakness. You are aware of our scheming. We have been like wild animals, trying to impress others with a display of dominance. You are so different from us, providing us with the free gift of the water of life, that we might live forever.

Galatians 1
God of Glory, You have sent us apostles to speak to us the truth of Christ. Help us to hold fast to the gospel that we have received, that message of the good news of our redemption through Jesus. We want to please You and serve You in this one gospel. We would not want to use our gifts as instruments of wickedness as in former days. Help us to look to You as our Master and our Father, and to glorify You with lives of obedient love and joy.
