Meditating on the Scriptures Together

1 John 4:9-10
[9] In this the love of God
was made manifest among us,
that God sent his only Son into the world,
so that we might live through him.
[10] In this is love,
not that we have loved God
but that he loved us
and sent his Son
to be the propitiation for our sins.

Matthew 1:18-25
[18] Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. [19] And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. [20] But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. [21] She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” [22] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

[23] “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). [24] When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, [25] but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

Meditating on the Scriptures Together

1 John 4:7-8
[7] Beloved, let us love one another,
for love is from God,
and whoever loves has been born of God
and knows God.
[8] Anyone who does not love
does not know God,
because God is love.

Matthew 5:17-20
[17] Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. [18] For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. [19] Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. [20] For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Meditating on the Scriptures Together

1 John 4:4-6
[4] Little children,
you are from God and have overcome them,
for he who is in you
is greater than he who is in the world.
[5] They are from the world;
therefore they speak from the world,
and the world listens to them.
[6] We are from God.
Whoever knows God listens to us;
whoever is not from God
does not listen to us.
By this we know the Spirit of truth
and the spirit of error.

Matthew 5:14-16
[14] You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
[15] Nor do people light a lamp
and put it under a basket, but on a stand,
and it gives light to all in the house.
[16] In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see
your good works and give glory
to your Father who is in heaven.

Meditating on the Scriptures Together

1 John 4:1-3

[1] Beloved, do not believe every spirit,
but test the spirits
to see whether they are from God,
for many false prophets
have gone out into the world.
[2] By this you know the Spirit of God:
every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
[3] and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.
This is the spirit of the antichrist,
which you heard was coming
and now is in the world already.

Matthew 5:13

[13] You are the salt of the earth,
but if salt has lost its taste,

how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

1 John 3:23-24

[23] And this is his commandment,
that we believe in the name
of his Son Jesus Christ
and love one another,
just as he has commanded us.
[24] Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God,
and God in him.
And by this we know that he abides in us,
by the Spirit whom he has given us.

Matthew 5:11-12

[11] “Blessed are you
when others revile you
and persecute you
and utter all kinds of evil against you
falsely on my account.
[12] Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward is great in heaven,
for so they persecuted the prophets

who were before you.”

Meditating on the Scriptures Together

Luke 14:12-24

[12] He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. [13] But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, [14] and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”
[15] When one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!” [16] But he said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many. [17] And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ [18] But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’ [19] And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’ [20] And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ [21] So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ [22] And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ [23] And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. [24] For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.’”

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they shall be called sons of God.
